What is it about the blues that can bring about a feeling of transcendent exultation? Why do sad songs make us feel good? Elton John and Bernie Taupin were right in saying, “The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you/ And it feels so good to hurt so bad/ And suffer just enough to sing the blues.”

Nashville’s own rising singer-songwriters Lauren Anderson and Justine Blazer know, try as you might, nothing profoundly moves through your soul quite the same. Not kissing frogs on a quest for a prince. Not retail therapy. Not even whiskey. “Always knows what I’m going through,” the two singers harmonize with distinctive timbres, “Cause there ain’t no cure like the blues.”

For this single, premiering exclusively today on American Blues Scene, Lauren and Justine recorded down in Muscle Shoals at the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studios. “Justine and I connected a few years ago and booked a co-writing session,” Lauren shares with us. We started chatting about life and its ups and downs and kept coming back to this concept that there’s nothing like the blues to pick you up when life knocks you down. We’re both fans of Bonnie Raitt as well and next thing we knew we were writing a fun, Bonnie Raitt style tune! We decided that we wanted to record the song together and are super excited about more collaborations down the line!”

Justine tells us, “I met Lauren in 2022 at an industry party. I then heard her voice and music, and I knew I had to do a collaboration with her one day! About a year later (2023), we wrote this song together and now in 2024, we finally got it recorded down in Muscle Shoals. The heart and soul of heart and soul! We are so excited for the world to now hear it. I can’t think of a more dynamic collaboration than this!”
